In the twentieth century, the progress and development of science and technology enriched mankind. On the other hand, it was the century that created a dangerous power balance with nuclear weapons as we saw in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In the 21st century, we witnessed a nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. What this accident asks us is whether we can leave the scientific knowledge only to scientists. We believe that we cannot. Scientific knowledge should be returned to our hands. This institute was established to put this idea into practice. There is always mathematics at the foundation of science. The Institute aims to spread mathematics to the general public through research and education in mathematics.
